What the F- is a No-Reply Blogger?
| New here? You may want to subscribe to my RSS feed! |
Alright; so I comment on blogs all the time.
If you're familiar with the blogging comment system; you know that you don't get a notification when the blogger replies to you. You would need to subscribe to the comment feed; which means you have to subscribe to everyone else's comments as well.
&& I don't know about you; but I don't want a million and one emails per day.
This makes me wonder; what is the point of commenting?
I mean - sure I can comment 'Great Post' 'I love this post' or 'Good Job' - these comments don't really need a reply; but when I take the time to ask a question, or really go out of my way and share a story of my own - I want a response. Wouldn't you?
You see; Rachel pretty much saved my life {well my blogging comments life}
I've heard about the whole no-reply blogger before; but I didn't know what the hell it meant - nor did I take the time to figure it out. I just assumed it had nothing to do with me and my blog.
Rachel let me know that I was in fact A NO -REPLY BLOGGER....
Again; I didn't know what the hell a no-reply blogger was.
So I did what I always do. I consulted with my good ole friend Google.
He's always there to lend a helping hand.
I also Tweeted Rachel to follow up with her; and she helped me out a quite a bit as well.
Question one: What is a no-reply blogger?
a no reply blogger; simply means that you do not have an Email account linked to your blogger or google plus account.
Question two: How did I become a no-reply blogger?
Does this really matter... Let's just fix it shall we?
Question three: Why does this matter to me?
It may or it may not; you see - Rachel let me know that she replies to her comments via email. Which means that if you do not have an email linked to your account; she can't reply. I think this is genius. If I take the time to comment on a post - I would love an email notification of a reply from the blogger. This is the surest way that I know they reply {without me checking over and over}. She is essentially creating email notifications for us. Which is pretty amazing if I do say so myself.
I am going to start doing this. I will reply to your comments via email. I feel as though this is the best way to notify you when I reply to your comment. I will also be able to reply from my phone; which mean's quicker responses to your questions.
Now the PROBLEM: If you are a No-Reply Blogger; I won't be able to reply to you.
If you don't care to get a response; and are just saying something like 'Great post' or one of those others. Then you don't need to worry about this - but if you want a response; Fix this!
The MOST IMPORTANT Question: How do I fix this?
There are many tutorials out there... You can consult with Google - or Let me show you.
Step one: Are you currently using Google plus or Blogger?
If you don't know the answer to this question - Go to your blogger profile && Click on the settings icon {you will find this next to the language setting}.
If it says - Revert to Blogger Profile {You are using Google Plus}
If it says - Connect with Google Plus {You are using the blogger profile}
In order to fix this issue - you must be using a blogger profile {don't worry - you can switch it back right after the fix} So go ahead and click 'revert to blogger profile' && go through the steps to revert. If you are already using a blogger profile just go to the next step.
Step two: Click next to your name.... {see picture}
Step three: && then click 'blogger profile' {when you get there - pay attention to that space under contact me - right now it should just say 'my web page' but after the fix it will also show your email.}
Step four: Click on Edit profile ---> Check the box that says 'show my email' && save.
{If you would like - you can change the email address that is shown.}
Now I can reply to you!! If you view your profile - it will now say 'email' under 'Contact Me' -
Also; if you still want to use google plus just switch it back and it will still be fixed.
I don't like Google Plus at all... So I will be sticking to my Blogger Profile.
If you aren't sure if you are a no-reply blogger; leave me a comment on this post {include your email address so I can let you know} - If you do the fix && just want to make sure it worked; You can also leave me a comment and I will let you know. Include your email address either way.
I'd like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to RACHEL
I hope this helps everyone who was just as confused as me!!

YOU ARE A MIRACLE WORKER.... I think.
ReplyDeleteSO many people have said that I'm a no-reply blogger. I've said "I know, I know" but I simply can't figure out how to fix it! I deleted my G+ and it still wouldn't work.... because I didn't know that there was one more step. Therefore THANK YOU.
However, could you try to respond to this comment so I can make sure it does work!???
xoxoxoxox
I have fixed it over and over and for some reason, somehow it keeps reverting back to a no-reply. I haven't connected back to my google+ and am using just my blogger profile so I'm really at a loss. Any tips or suggestions? Thanks!

This is amazing! can you get let me know if I'm a 'no-reply' blogger? I'm using DISQUS at the moment as I've found it easier to reply to comments. However, if this works I'm going to revert back to the blogger comment system. If so, would it be okay to divert my readers to this post? x

Thanks SO much! I have been told time and time again and I finally fixed it thanks to you! <3
ReplyDeleteI find your blog on the bbloggerschat ~ I totally agree with this, but I do feel that I made sure that I have contact details on my blog, so if someone needs to know something, it's so easy to also pop me a mail, thanks for all this info :-) xoxo

When it comes to replying to comments, when you receive e-mail notification about the comment, is there a link in the e-mail for you to reply? How does it work? x
ReplyDeleteThis was one of the reasons I switched to my comment system[IntenseDebate], it allows me to reply straight from my email. Thanks for this post, I'm glad blogger is doing better with their comment system!
ReplyDeleteI use Intensedebate too. so I know when people comment and I can reply. I'm pretty sure it sends them an email when there is a reply.
DeleteI use Disqus and get an email everytime someone comments. This then goes into my inbox and I respond in bulk. I know some bloggers do not have the option to get notified when then receive a comment so thanks for sharing this Nykki!

awwwww your just amazing girl as always thanks so much All fixed now thanks to you hehehehe I love it xxxxxxxxxxx
ReplyDeleteIve never even thought about the no reply blogger thing. Mine is set up with my google+ account so I am not sure if it is no reply or not!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this!! I'm constantly checking blogs multiple times to see if people have responded to me & it gets so annoying. Eventually I forget about it & my questions either go unanswered or I just never know that they were answered in the first place.
ReplyDeletei've gotten to where I only reply to comments that have an email activated because it gets time consuming going from email to blog to reply if no email is available then most likely a don't' respond
ReplyDeleteTRY ME TRY ME! I think it works!! Can someone comment on my blog as well so I can try it?! I'm so confused!!

I do reply in my blog, most of the time. I hadn't thought about using email this way. I don't want a mobile phone but the email will work on it's own.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I don't like are blogs like yours, where I can't type in my name/URL. I don't use the Blogger account or WordPress.com. So for self-hosted bloggers like myself THIS is a blog where I can't leave my blog link when I comment. That bugs me.
Self hosted bloggers can add their links to their comment on blogs like this via an HTML code directly in their comment or if you connect your blog to your Google+ account it could be linked that way. That way when you comment people can track you/your blog that way :) I use the same blogger comment form platform as Nykki does here and I think it's easiest, and self hosted bloggers comment that way for me all the time and their blog is always linked rather then adding a plug in or other type of comment platform which in return could slow our sites down <3

Ange
You can type in your link if you'd like to to leave it, There is also a way to add your link within your comments on the blogger platform. You just have to use an HTML code like Ange says above. I have a tutorial....
DeleteHere is the link.... How to add a link in a comment using HTML
Thanks for commenting. Sorry for 'bugging' you. :)
So I'm still thinking about switching to blogger profile, but I can tell when someone posts a comment on my blog. I've received 2 comments on my blog and I got an email stating so...
ReplyDeleteIs this what you're talking about? being able to see the comments on email in google/blogger or are you talking about replying to them individually thru an email?
Thanks!!! :)
Thank you so much i read all you're tutorials and they have helped me alot, you are a star!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks again

haha OMG seriously I was a NO-REPLY BLOGGER! Shame on me, I fixed it immediately ;-)) xoxo
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for posting this! I was told I was a No-Reply blogger and I looked and looked and could not figure out how to fix it. I mean seriously - it is pretty convoluted!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this break down - it is just what I needed.
I definitely switched. Thanks for this!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for breaking this down, I knew I was a no reply blogger but I had no idea how to fix it. If you wouldn't mind stopping over and checking for me, I would greatly appreciate it

Good to know, thanks a lot. :)
ReplyDeleteI do not use Google+ or Blogger. I have a Word Press account. Any suggestions how to not be a no-reply blogger in this case?
